"A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it is committing another mistake." Confucius
An example of me striving for accuracy and precision came while studying and naming chemical bonds. The main bonds we focused on were Ionic and Covalent, and through worksheets, quizzes, and tests, we were tested on our ability to write out chemical bonds, or write the chemical formula using abreviated symbols for elements. This type of work required concentration and hard work along with a lot of practice and practice. But each worksheet, I was striving for complete accuracy and precision. The following pictures illustrate my dedication for accuracy and precision.
Despite this poor quality from this Itouch camera application, once you squint your eyes, you begin to see two sheets of paper, organized in very similar manners. These two pictures were worksheets handed out during class to improve our ability to name and write chemical bonds. As seen from the pictures, the worksheet on the left clearly had multiple mistakes as seen from the circles and the minus ones, while on the right, it was the opposite. However, this didnt happen over night or with the subsequent worksheet. I had to practice and practice, and through multiple worksheets, I eventually mastered the topic completely. The worksheet on the right is another chemical bonding worksheet, except this one has no marks other than check marks. I had improved from a poor score on the left to a much more improved 100% on the right. By striving for accuracy and precision, this particular example showed me what my hard work and practice all payed off for.
This example also made me think that striving for precision and accuracy is a valuable trait in any circumstance. It is not only through problems such as these in chemistry class that are meant for students to strive for precision and accuracy, but all through life problems we are meant to as well. I have learned this and choose to strive for the best I can be by working hard and practicing.
